Counts

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004740

The raw numerical output from a sensor or instrument, representing the number of detected events or units of a measured quantity. These values often require calibration or conversion factors to be transformed into standard meteorological units. For example, a rain gauge might record a certain number of 'counts' before converting to millimeters of precipitation.
