Countertrades

Winds that blow in a direction opposite to the prevailing trade winds, typically found at higher altitudes above the trade wind belt. These upper-level winds are part of the return flow of the Hadley cell circulation. They transport air poleward, completing the tropical atmospheric circulation loop.
