Critical height
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004761
The maximum height to which a parcel of air can rise adiabatically before its temperature becomes equal to that of the surrounding environment. Above this height, the parcel would be colder and denser than its surroundings, preventing further buoyant ascent. This concept is related to atmospheric stability and the potential for convective cloud development.
