Cumulonimbus calvus

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004795

A cumulonimbus cloud that has not yet developed a fibrous or striated upper part, meaning its top still appears rounded and puffy, similar to a large cumulus congestus. This stage indicates that the cloud's updraft is strong but has not yet reached the level where ice crystals fully dominate and spread out. It is a precursor to the more mature cumulonimbus capillatus stage.
