Calvus
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004121
A species of cumulonimbus cloud in which the upper parts have lost their sharp cumuliform outlines but have not yet transformed into a fibrous, cirriform anvil. The cloud top appears puffy or flattened and represents a transitional stage between Cumulonimbus congestus and Cumulonimbus capillatus. This species name, from the Latin for "bald," indicates the cloud has reached a height where glaciation has begun.
