A non-SI unit of radioactivity, defined as the activity of a quantity of radioactive material in which 3.7 x 10^10 disintegrations occur per second. This unit was originally based on the activity of one gram of radium-226. While still used in some contexts, the SI unit for radioactivity is the becquerel (Bq), where 1 curie equals 3.7 x 10^10 Bq.
