Differential kinematics

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004985

The study of the motion of fluid parcels in the atmosphere by analyzing the spatial derivatives of the wind field. This involves calculating quantities such as divergence, vorticity, and deformation, which describe how air masses stretch, rotate, and shear. These kinematic properties are derived from observations or model outputs of wind velocity components.
