Doppler velocity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005103

The component of a target's velocity directed along the line of sight of a Doppler radar or lidar, measured by the Doppler frequency shift. It represents the speed at which a target is moving directly towards or away from the sensor. This radial velocity is a fundamental measurement for determining wind speeds, precipitation motion, and the kinematics of atmospheric phenomena.
