Doppler spread

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005102

The range of Doppler frequency shifts observed in a radar or lidar signal, indicating the variability of radial velocities within the illuminated volume. A larger Doppler spread suggests greater turbulence or a wider range of target motions. This parameter is directly related to the spectral width of the Doppler spectrum and provides insights into the small-scale dynamics and mixing processes within the atmosphere.
