Doppler spectrum

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005101

A representation of the distribution of radial velocities of targets within a radar or lidar sampling volume. It shows the power of the returned signal as a function of Doppler frequency shift, which is directly related to velocity. Analysis of the Doppler spectrum provides detailed information about atmospheric motion, turbulence, and the characteristics of hydrometeors.
