Doppler spectral broadening
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005099
The widening of the Doppler spectrum of a radar or lidar signal, indicating a spread of velocities within the sampled volume. This broadening can be caused by turbulence, wind shear, or the presence of hydrometeors with different fall speeds. It provides insights into the small-scale dynamics of the atmosphere.
