Doppler spectral moments

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005100

Statistical parameters derived from the Doppler spectrum of a radar or lidar signal, characterizing the distribution of velocities within the sampled volume. The first moment represents the mean radial velocity, the second moment indicates spectral width or velocity dispersion, and the third moment describes skewness. These moments are used to infer atmospheric motion and turbulence.
