Central moment

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004230

A statistical measure that describes the shape of a probability distribution, calculated as the expected value of a random variable raised to a power, after subtracting its mean. The second central moment is the variance, which quantifies the spread of the data. Higher-order central moments, like skewness and kurtosis, describe asymmetry and peakedness.
