Direct route

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005038

The path of a radio wave that travels in a straight line from a transmitter to a receiver without being reflected or refracted. This line-of-sight propagation is the primary mode for very high frequency (VHF) and ultra high frequency (UHF) signals used in weather radar and satellite communications. The maximum range of the direct route is limited by the curvature of the Earth and obstructions along the path.
