Echo box
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005248
A passive test instrument used to check the overall performance of a radar system, including both the transmitter and receiver. It is a high-Q resonant cavity that, when excited by the radar's transmitted pulse, stores the energy and reradiates it back to the receiver with a slow decay. The duration of the resulting signal on the radar display, known as the ringing time, indicates the system's performance.
