Transmit-receive tube
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010819
A gas-filled switching device used in a radar system to protect the sensitive receiver from the high-power pulse generated by the transmitter. The transmit-receive tube, or TR tube, is placed in the transmission line and acts as a short circuit during transmission, diverting the powerful signal away from the receiver. When the transmitter is off, the tube is inactive, permitting the weak echo signal to pass to the receiver.
