Effective earth radius

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005281

A modified radius of the Earth used in radio propagation calculations to account for the bending of radio waves by the atmosphere. This effective radius is typically larger than the actual geometric radius, effectively straightening the radio ray path. For standard atmospheric conditions, the effective Earth radius is approximately 4/3 times the true radius.
