Exsiccation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005509

The process of extreme drying or desiccation of a region, often leading to arid or semi-arid conditions. This phenomenon results from prolonged periods of insufficient precipitation, high temperatures, and increased evaporation, which deplete soil moisture and surface water bodies. Exsiccation can have profound impacts on ecosystems, agriculture, and water availability, contributing to desertification.
