Desiccation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004946
The process of extreme drying or removal of moisture from a substance or environment. In meteorology, it describes the drying out of air masses, soil, or vegetation due to prolonged periods of low humidity, high temperatures, or strong winds. This can lead to drought conditions and increased fire risk, with relative humidity often dropping below 20% during severe desiccation events.
