Deflation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004897
The erosional process by which loose, unconsolidated surface material, such as sand, dust, or soil, is removed and transported by wind. This phenomenon is common in arid and semi-arid regions, leading to the formation of desert pavements and deflation hollows. Strong winds can lift fine particles high into the atmosphere, contributing to dust storms and affecting air quality.
