Frazil

Small, needle-like ice crystals that form in turbulent, supercooled freshwater or seawater. These crystals often appear as a slushy mixture on the water surface or suspended within the water column. Frazil ice can accumulate rapidly, posing hazards to navigation and blocking water intake structures in cold regions.
