Historical climate

The synthesis of weather conditions over a long period in the past, established using instrumental records and proxy data. It provides a baseline against which current and future climate variability and change can be assessed. The standard climatological reference period defined by the World Meteorological Organization is the most recent 30-year interval, updated each decade.
