Improved TIROS Operational System

A series of polar-orbiting meteorological satellites developed by the United States, designed to provide global weather data for forecasting and climate monitoring. These satellites carry a suite of instruments to measure atmospheric temperature, humidity, and cloud cover. The system succeeded the original TIROS program and was eventually replaced by the Joint Polar Satellite System.
