Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009686
The world's first operational weather satellite system, established in 1966 as the successor to the experimental TIROS program. Managed by the Environmental Science Services Administration (ESSA), a predecessor of NOAA, this system provided continuous, routine cloud-cover data for daily weather forecasting.
