Geostationary operational environmental satellite

A type of weather satellite that orbits the Earth at the same rate as the Earth's rotation, remaining above a fixed point on the equator. These satellites provide continuous, real-time imagery and data on atmospheric conditions, sea surface temperatures, and severe weather events. The data from these satellites is used for short-term weather forecasting and storm tracking, with images often updated every 10 to 15 minutes.
