  1. A series of geostationary operational environmental satellites operated by the United States, providing continuous weather and environmental monitoring of the Western Hemisphere. These satellites collect imagery and atmospheric soundings, which are used for short-term weather forecasting, severe storm prediction, and climate studies. GOES satellites orbit approximately 35,786 kilometers above the equator.

  2. Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite- Satellites orbiting at 22,370 miles above the Equator with the same rotational velocity as the Earth; therefore, the satellite
remains over the same location on the Earth 24 hours a day. Besides sending back satellite pictures to earth, it also relays the DCPs river and rainfall data back to the ground
