Geostationary satellite
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001146
An artificial satellite that orbits the Earth directly above the equator at an altitude where its orbital period matches the Earth's rotational period. This results in the satellite appearing stationary from the ground, providing a constant view of a specific region. These satellites are widely used for telecommunications, broadcasting, and particularly for continuous meteorological observation and environmental monitoring.
A satellite that rotates at the same rate as the earth, remaining over the same spot above the equator.
