Infiltration routing

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006536

A computational procedure in hydrology for simulating the movement of water into and through the soil profile during and after a precipitation event. The method calculates the rate and volume of water entering the soil and its subsequent downward percolation through the unsaturated zone. Infiltration routing is a component of rainfall-runoff models, which use methods like the Green-Ampt equation or Horton's equation to quantify the process.
