Lambing storm

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006852

A fall of snow in spring, long noted in England, that arrives while the ewes are lambing; folk names include lamb blast and lamb shower. Traditionally the fall is slight, a passing wintry shower rather than a blizzard, but sudden cold and wet can still stress newborn lambs left unsheltered.
