Liquid water loading

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006992

The weight of liquid water carried in an air parcel, which reduces its buoyancy by an amount equal to gravity times the liquid water mixing ratio. It offsets part of the thermal buoyancy of rising air in convective clouds and adds to the downward push of precipitation-laden downdrafts, such as those in a downburst.
