Local effects
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007009
Weather phenomena produced or modified by small-scale geographical features, independent of the larger-scale synoptic weather pattern. These influences include terrain-induced winds like sea breezes or mountain-valley circulations, lake-effect precipitation, and temperature variations caused by urban heat islands. Forecasting these effects requires high-resolution numerical models because they occur on a scale too small for global models to resolve accurately.
