Geographic effect on winds

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005908

The influence of Earth's surface features, such as mountains, coastlines, and land-sea boundaries, on the direction and speed of atmospheric winds. Topography can channel, block, or enhance wind flow, leading to localized wind patterns like mountain-valley breezes or sea breezes. These effects are particularly pronounced in complex terrain and near large bodies of water.
