Local derivative
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007008
The rate of change of a meteorological variable with respect to time at a fixed point in space. It quantifies how a property, such as temperature or wind speed, evolves at a stationary observation site. This is distinct from the material derivative, which follows the change of a property as it moves with the fluid.
