Total derivative
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009711
A mathematical operator that describes the rate of change of a property of a fluid parcel as it moves through space and time. It accounts for both local changes at a fixed point and advective changes due to the parcel's motion. This concept is central to understanding atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, such as the evolution of temperature or moisture in a moving air mass.
