Locally generated sea

Ocean waves that are produced by the wind blowing over the water surface in the immediate vicinity of the observation point. These waves are still growing and are characterized by a relatively short wavelength and steepness. They are distinct from swell, which consists of waves that have traveled from distant storm systems.
