Long shore wind

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007031

A wind that blows nearly parallel to the coastline, also known as a shore-parallel wind. This wind direction is a primary driver of longshore currents in the nearshore zone, which transport water and sediment along the coast. The interaction of this wind with the land-sea boundary can also influence the formation of coastal fog, low clouds, and local temperature variations, distinct from winds blowing directly onshore or offshore.
