Mean high water springs

A tidal datum representing the long-term average height of the high waters occurring during spring tides, which happen shortly after the new and full moon. It is calculated from all the high waters of spring tides over a specific 19-year period. This datum is used in coastal engineering, navigation, and for defining legal boundaries between private and public land along the coast.
