Multiannual storage
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007442
The accumulation of water in a reservoir or groundwater system over several consecutive years, designed to buffer against long-term droughts or periods of below-average precipitation. This strategy contrasts with annual storage, which only aims to balance water supply and demand within a single year. Multiannual storage systems are characteristic of arid and semi-arid regions where rainfall variability between years is high.
