Neutercane

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007520

A hybrid low-pressure system exhibiting characteristics of both tropical and extratropical cyclones. These storms derive energy from both the release of latent heat from warm ocean waters and from horizontal temperature gradients (baroclinic instability). Neutercanes typically form over subtropical or mid-latitude waters and have a less symmetric structure and a broader wind field than a pure hurricane.
