Cyclogenesis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000643

  1. The process of formation or intensification of a cyclonic circulation, which is a low-pressure area with rotating winds. This typically involves the interaction of upper-level atmospheric disturbances with surface temperature gradients and baroclinic instability. It is a fundamental process in the development of mid-latitude storms and tropical cyclones.

  2. (Abbrev. CYCLGN) - The formation or intensification of a cyclone or low-pressure storm system.
