Lee cyclogenesis
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006910
The formation or intensification of a low-pressure system on the downwind side of a mountain range. This phenomenon occurs when airflow over the mountains creates a trough of low pressure in the lee, often due to vortex stretching and latent heat release. A prominent example is the development of cyclones in the lee of the Alps or the Rocky Mountains.
