Orographic vortex
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007742
A rotating air mass that forms on the leeward side of a mountain range due to the interaction of airflow with the topography. These vortices develop when stable airflow is forced over a barrier, creating a region of cyclonic circulation in the mountain's wake. They can influence local wind patterns and cloud formation, persisting for several hours to days.
