Lee trough
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006912
An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure that forms on the downwind side of a mountain range. This feature is created by the dynamic effects of airflow over the mountains, which can induce subsidence and warming on the lee side, leading to reduced surface pressure. Lee troughs are often associated with enhanced convection and cyclogenesis.
