Numerical Weather Prediction, which is the application of mathematical models of the atmosphere and oceans to predict the weather based on current weather conditions. These models use complex equations of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, solved on supercomputers, to simulate the evolution of the atmosphere. NWP forms the backbone of modern weather forecasting, providing forecasts ranging from hours to weeks ahead.
