Percentile

A measure used in statistics indicating the value below which a given percentage of observations in a group of observations falls. For example, the 90th percentile is the value below which 90 percent of the observations are found. In meteorology, percentiles are used to characterize the distribution of weather variables, such as temperature or precipitation, and to identify extreme events.
