Pleistocene epoch

A geological epoch characterized by repeated glacial cycles, where large ice sheets advanced and retreated across continents. This period saw the evolution and dispersal of modern humans and many large mammals. It spanned from approximately 2.58 million years ago to about 11,700 years ago, ending with the last glacial maximum.
