Milankovitch Pleistocene climate variation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007301

The observed cyclical changes in Earth's climate during the Pleistocene epoch, primarily characterized by alternating glacial and interglacial periods, which are attributed to variations in Earth's orbital parameters. These variations, known as Milankovitch cycles, alter the distribution of solar insolation, particularly at high latitudes. The dominant periodicity for these climate shifts during the late Pleistocene is approximately 100,000 years.
