Glacial epoch

A major geological period characterized by the presence of extensive ice sheets and glaciers across large parts of the Earth's surface. These epochs consist of multiple alternating glacial and interglacial periods. The most recent glacial epoch, the Quaternary Glaciation, began about 2.58 million years ago and continues today with alternating cold and warm phases.
