Precipitation-evaporation ratio

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010681

The ratio of the total amount of precipitation received in an area to the total amount of water evaporated from that area over a specific period. This precipitation-evaporation ratio (P-E ratio) is a key indicator of aridity or humidity in a region. A P-E ratio greater than one suggests a net surplus of water, while a ratio less than one indicates a deficit.
