Precipitators

Devices used to remove particulate matter from gas streams, often in industrial settings, by applying an electrostatic charge to the particles which are then attracted to oppositely charged collection plates. While not directly meteorological, the term relates to the removal of atmospheric aerosols. Electrostatic precipitators are a common example of this technology.
